Comenius teachers visit the borough

Pupils in each of the schools have participated in a range of activities including, forwarding examples of number problems and/or investigations which were solved by children in partner schools.

The children have also completed booklets containing information about themselves.

These were then used to produce a range of graphs computer generated and hand drawn for discussion with pupils in other schools. Pupils were also provided with opportunities to question/share findings with partner pupils during video-conferences.

A DVD/Powerpoint presentation was also produced about a day in the life of their own schools as well as seeing the corresponding presentations form partner schools.

Tony Fisher, principal of St Malachy’s PS, said: “Our teachers have also had the opportunity to visit partner schools and see at first hand the education systems in their respective countries.

“We have also met with local officials and educationalists from participating countries. This has broadened our knowledge and enabled us to learn from each other’s systems. Articles about our project have featured in local newspapers in each country.

“During their visit plans were finalised for this year. The visiting teachers also enjoyed visiting Bushmills Distillery, the Titanic Experience in Belfast as well as Stormont where they experienced at first hand the warmth and friendliness of all they met.”
