Commemorative plaque for Watson

RESIDENTS of Liscolman will gather this Wednesday to honour one of their most respected members, Watson McCook who died recently.

Watson, an employee of Bushmills Distillery who retired on health grounds, will be remembered by the village's Community group supported by Business in the Community and The Old Bushmills Distillery (Diageo).

All will participate in the creation of a new planting area along the main road into the village and a commemorative plaque will be unveiled in Watson's memory.

The Building Brighter Futures project is funded under the European Union's PEACE III programme managed for the Special EU Programmes Body by the North East PEACE III Partnership.

The aim is to enhance the visual appearance of the village by clearing waste ground which will be planted with new flowers in whiskey casks kindly donated by The Old Bushmills Distillery. Everyone is welcome to join in.

Old Bushmills will be supporting the dig with a team of workers from the Distillery and will also be kindly donating a commemorative plaque for what they describe as a "much missed friend and resident of Liscolman."

As part of this project, Liscolman Community Group have undertaken a series of historical workshops and have been in consultation with local artist Ross Wilson, to re-image the village mural.

The new mural has been drafted in full consultation with the community and Moyle District Council Good Relations Officer, and will be installed mid October.

Liscolman Community Group will also be holding a fundraising evening on Friday 10th September from 6pm with a horse shoe competition, children's and adults football match. All monies will go to the upkeep of the flowers.
