Communities benefit from DRD funding

BALLYMONEY community groups have benefited from £55,000 of funding in the last year. Castle, Glebeside and Carnany obtained the money from the Department of Social Development.

The money was released last year under the Small Pockets of Deprivation Programme. Money has been used to provide health fairs, art classes, community weeks and events during the summer.

Castle community group have a history booklet currently under production, funded through the scheme. A ‘Handyman’ service has also been provided, and Development Offcer’s salaries and community association’s running costs were also covered.

The aim of the scheme, launched in March last year, is to is to support physical and community regeneration.

The Programme is administered by the Housing Executive and delivered by Supporting Communities Northern Ireland in conjunction with local people.
