Community Association hold AGM

PLANNING issues and the digital switchover were the main topics of discussion recently at the annual general meeting of Whitemountain & District Community Association which was held at the Bridge Community Centre.

The AGM was chaired by Lagan Valley MLA Trevor Lunn. Just prior to the AGM, attendees were given a brief presentation on the digital switchover which reminded them of the need to be prepared for the main switchover day on October 24. Ivan Kelly, a local TV engineer, was also on hand to clarify any issues, especially around ensuring that residents are aware that to receive RTE they will need to ensure they have HD equipment and not just HD ready equipment.

The Bridge Community Centre was represented by Alison Prentice who commended the association for always trying to put forward interesting topics for discussion at the AGMs. Alison also clarified some matters surrounding the future of the funding programme for community groups.

Attendees did, however, hear that the Lagan Rural Partnership scheme is not taking further any consideration of the ‘Limestone Way’ tourism initiative project that the association instigated some two years back. Although disappointing, hopes are that some form of tourism project can still be achieved. This topic, and the planning issues, will no doubt be main topics in the coming months.

Diane Ewart also attended in her capacity as the new local representative of the Tyrone Armagh Down and Antrim (TADA) Rural Support Network. Diane highlighted that TADA hopes to be continuing its project to help rural dwellers ensure that they are getting all the necessary benefits they are entitled to. After some discussion on the topic, the AGM closed with agreement to support TADA’s bid to be the delivery agent for the project.
