Community Association holds digital switchover evening

WHITEMOUNTAIN and District Community Association will hold their Annual General Meeting and Digital TV Switchover evening on Monday October 8 at the Bridge Community Centre at 7.30pm and would like to invite everyone in the area along to take part in planning for the future.

The early part of the evening will focus on the Digital TV switchover and will also feature the launch of the new logo for the association.

Secretary of the association John Belshaw commented: “The Digital TV Switchover is one of the biggest things that will affect us all. Our information session just ahead of the formal AGM itself will hopefully clarify some topics that particularly might affect folks in higher lying areas such as Whitemountain.

“In recent years we have hopefully helped connect together residents of the areas bounded by Sheepwalk Rd, Pond Park Rd, Beanstown, Glenavy Rd and Whinney Hill in the townlands of the Whitemountain, Aghnahough, Beanstown, Ballyclough and surrounding areas just North of the city.

“We have specifically timed this event just two days ahead of the first phase of the switchover and by that stage hopefully some specific things that might affect us will be clarified, for example clarifying some things relating to getting RTE coverage. We will also have available a leaflet that has been put together to help clarify some things on the switchover so hopefully we will have a strong attendance.

“Communicating with residents has been a big focus and though the use of flyers, our new web site (www.whitemountain.org.uk) and a Facebook presence then hopefully we have helped make residents feel part of something in their area. A special thanks must also go to The Ulster Star for helping us communicate to a varied audience and to the team at the Bridge Community Centre.

“Local councillors are also invited and hopefully those attending will take on board any local issues that people have or provide any update on some tourism project initiatives that we have been trying to get off the ground in the past year.”

“Leaflets about October 8 meeting will also be getting distributed to homes in these areas but in the meantime if anyone has any issue that they believe worthy of discussion by the ‘new’ committee they can e mail it to [email protected].”
