Community effort results in a new Islandmagee book

THE rich historical and cultural heritage of the Islandmagee area has been captured in a new 350-page book to be published by Islandmagee Community Development Association.

"Islandmagee and Templecorran - a postcard history" will be launched in Larne Golf Club next Wednesday (May 12) at 7.30pm and a warm invitation is extended to all interested.

The new limited edition hardback book will retail at 25, but it will be available to those attending the launch for 20.

The idea of producing a book based on old postcards of the area was raised several years ago. Association committee member Dr Steve O;Direain agreed to the job as author and set to work on the project, enlisting the help of Francis McHugh who has been collecting memorabilia of the area for a lifetime. In addition to extensive researching of old archives and records, Steve networked extensively with local residents.
