Community groups funding

CRAIGAVON Borough Council in partnership with the Department for Social Development have awarded over £110,300 of vital community grant aid to 55 various community groups throughout the Borough.

The Community Development Grant Aid scheme is an annual programme which is funded by Craigavon Borough Council’s Community Development Section and the Voluntary Community Unit of the Department for Social Development through the Community Support Programme.

Over 90 community group representatives received their grant cheques at a presentation ceremony in Lough Neagh Discovery Centre. The funding will help purchase essential equipment for community groups and help with general running costs and training for volunteers. It will also help encourage volunteering and community development activities in areas across Craigavon.

On presenting the cheques to the groups, the Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Mrs Meta Crozier commented: “The Community Development Grant Aid Scheme is a vital resource to many community and voluntary groups existing across the Borough.

"I am delighted to present this vitally important funding to these groups who do such important work throughout the area. Those involved work extremely hard and for long hours and without these groups, many people in the Borough would be at a loss”.

The Community Development Grant Aid Scheme is just one of a number of ways Craigavon Borough Council’s Development Department addresses community development issues and supports community and voluntary groups throughout the Borough.
