Community invited to hear ‘The Digger’

Whitemountain & District Community Association are holding a special evening with ‘The Digger’ on Monday night November 23 at the Bridge Community Centre at 7.30pm.

This is open to the public and will be just ahead of the Annual General meeting at 8pm and will be an opportunity for locals from the area to hear from ‘The Digger’ about his own research of the Whitemountain and surrounding area.

Outgoing chairperson of the association John Belshaw commented: “November 23 is going to be an excellent night when we will hear about some aspects of the Whitemountain history that folks that live there probably have never heard of. ‘The Digger’ is well known to readers of The Ulster Star for his very informative narratives on various local history and Im certainly looking forward to hearing about the various familys that lived in the area over the centuries.

“We really do hope that residents from the area can come along to this special pre-AGM talk and the AGM itself.

“The introduction of a new Whitemountain Ward is a significant change of recent also and we have plenty of plans for some big ‘events’ next year following on from the successes of a range of information leaflets on the area that the association is linked to.

“ Our most recent ‘Townlands’ leaflet and our Limestone Way tourism initiative project is just the tip of what could be developed for our area.

“A special thanks ahead of time must also go to The Ulster Star for helping us communicate to a varied audience and to the team at the Bridge Community Centre.”
