Community lobbying leads to new signs for Taghnevan area

News that street signs in the Taghnevan area of Lurgan are to be replaced has been welcomed by Sinn Fein.

Catherine Seeley MLA and Cllr Liam Mackle said it followed a request from the Taghnevan Community Association for street signs to be replaced throughout the Taghnevan estate,

Sinn Féin elected representatives contacted Armagh Banbridge and Craigavon Council which agreed to re-sign the entire estate.

Ms Seeley said: “The Taghnevan community have shown the fantastic impact local activism can have in securing much needed improvement for local communities. Working alongside their elected reps and council to make Taghnevan a better and safer place to live.

“Their work on this matter was essential in securing this outcome and they have shown once again what a community working as a collective can achieve.

Cllr. Mackle concluded by saying: “This will be of great assistance to residents and service providers, particularly vital emergency services right across the Taghnevan estate. I would like to commend the community association on their efforts on this issue. In the future, I look forward to working closely with the community association in Taghnevan on other issues.

“Team Sinn Féin will continue to lead the way across the ABC council, engaging with local people in order to build vibrant, energetic and dynamic communities.”

A Council spokesperson said: “Council can confirm that street signs will be installed within the Taghnevan estate. Council is currently looking at costs and once these are secured and approved a time frame for installation will be determined.”
