Games Day

A big ‘thank you’ to all those who helped make Saturday’s Games Day in The Royal British Legion, Waterside Branch a huge success.

The organisers particularly wish to thank Lorraine from Foyle Down Syndrome Trust, to which all money raised will be going; the Royal British Legion, All Saints Clooney Bowling Club, Villas Dart Club, Area 6 County Darts Association, Ricks Take Away and RL Sports, for their assistance and support.

The organisers also wish to thank Linda Deans for assisting with scoring for the bowls, Thomas Hill and Malcolm Thompson for selling raffle tickets, Stewart Smallwoods for looking after the pool competition and Stuart Mcclelland for looking after the darts. Everyone who took part or brought prizes for the raffle and made donations is thanked for their generosity, The full amount raised with be announced shortly.

Bridge results

The latest results from the Counties Bridge Club for February 18 were as follows. The Eamon Gallagher Scratch Cup: 1st - Valerie Van Hof and Kathleen Colhoun. 2nd - Maureen Hamilton and Alwyn Johnston; 3rd - Christabel Crockett and Ken McClintock.

Ladies Bridge

The results for the Derry Ladies on February 24, were as follows: 1, C Mc’Donald and M Moore ; 2, M Hegarty and A Wallace ; 3, P Coull and K Colhoun. Members please note there will be an EGM at 7pm on Monday, March 3, 2014. Followed by the Eileen Russell Scratch Cup.

The North-West Coeliac Group Monthly meeting will be held tomorrow, Thursday, February 27, at 8pm in the MDEC Building, Altnagelvin Hospital.

A cookery demonstration will be hosted by The Green Cat Bakery, Eglinton. So come along and sample some fabulous home baking.

All new members are most welcome.

Annual Jim Guy Quiz

Are you over 60 and live within Derry City Council area? Then why not get a team of friends together and enter the 2014 Jim Guy Perpetual Cup Quiz. All four members of each team must be over 60 and the quiz will start on Monday, March 3, at 2pm at Malvern House, Chapel Road.

Food Festival

Handmade fudge and chocolates, sourdough bread and goat burgers will be among the fantastic fare on offer in Derry this St Patrick’s weekend during the 2014 LegenDerry Food Festival.

Sponsored by the DARD NI Regional Food Programme, Invest NI and the City of Culture Legacy programme, the festival will take place from Saturday 15th until Monday, March 17. Guildhall Square will be filled with mouth watering aromas drifting from the immense marquee which will house a feast of local produce given the star treatment by some of the biggest names in Irish cooking, and the very best local chefs. The event is organised by Derry City Council with support from Food NI.

The LegenDerry Food Festival is to take place over the St Patrick’s Day weekend of March 15 to 17, 2014.

WI Notes

Culmore

The members of Culmore WI celebrated their birthday dinner in Da Vinci’s hotel. Everyone enjoyed a beautiful meal. Everyone went home with a gift supplied by our members.

Variety Concert

Marryn Lacy

A Variety Concert for Merryn will take place on Wednesday, March 5, at 8pm in Lisneal College.

Artists and contributors include Ireland’s answer to Garth Brooks, the inimitable Jason Hughes, and the compere for the night will be Kenny Archer.

The Sollus Highland Dancers will be on stage as well asJessica Kelly, Leslie Matthews and Mannorcunningham Pipe Band.

Don’t forget! Crocheting Classes in The Church of Ireland Centre on Tuesdays from 2pm to 4pm. Classes are £1 per person.

Gym

Gym times are 10am to 3.30pm on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 10am to 8.30pm Tuesday and Thursday.

These times are to work around the youth club hours.

There is no monthly fee just £2 per session.

Eglinton Classic Car Club will host it’s Old Vehicle Display on sunday, April 6, 2014 from 11am-4pm at City of Derry Rugby Club. All proceeds from the event, sponsored by GE Services, Limavady, go to the North West Prostate Cancer Support Group. Vehicles eligble to take part include classic cars, old tractors, commercial vehicles, stationary engines and motor bikes. The event organised under the authoritry of AOVC NI has something for everyone, young or old, including live music, line dancing, Irish dancing, a jumble sale and a Fire Service display. Reimaging project

Drumahoe Reimaging Project Public consultation: The facilitator for the Reimaging Project wants to meet with residents and interested groups from the Drumahoe area on Wednesday, February 26, at 7pm in the Primary School to hear views on what themes might be incorporated into a piece of artwork to go on the site of the former Scott Goligher Hall on the junction of the Fincairn Road and Drumahoe Road.

Quiz night

St Johnston Ladies LOL 168 and LOL 992 will jointly host a Quiz Night on Friday, march 7, at 8pm in St Johnston Orange Hall. Come along and give your brain a workout and help fund the repair work to the hall. Admission, four to a team, and each team 20 Euro.
