Information Event

Benefit changes

Those currently in receipt of benefits including ESA, JSA, child tax credits, child benefit or housing benefit or DLA, who may be effected by forthcoming welfare cuts are being invited to attend a public meeting in the Tower Hotel tomorrow, Thursday, October 2, at 7pm.

It is being hosted by Destined, a local support group for people with learning disabilities, and will be of interest to all those in receipt of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) which will be replaced with the Personal Independence Payment (PIP). DLA recipients must attend a compulsory assessment or DLA will be stopped after four weeks from notification to attend irrespective of how long the recipient has been receiving the benefit.

Meanwhile ESA recipients will be subject means testing after receiving benefit for 12 months.

At the public meeting Kathleen Bradley, from Dove House Welfare Rights Service, will give a detailed breakdown on how the cuts will effect people.

Clooney Hall

Harvest Services

Harvest services at Clooney Hall Methodist Church will take place on Sunday, October 12, at 11.15am and at 6.30pm.

The preacher at both services will be Rev Dr Jim Williamson, former Minister of Clooney Hall and former Superintendent of the city Mission.

Indoor Car Boot

An Indoor Car Boot Sale will take place at Clooney Hall Methodist Church on Clooney Terrace (opposite the Ulster Bank) on Saturday, October 4, from 10am until 12.30pm. Everyone welcome.

Admission is £1.

One Day Shop

A One Day Shop will take place on Saturday, October 4, at Clooney Hall Methodist Church Hall, on Level 4, from 10am until 12.30pm.

It will include almost new fashion garments for ladies, gents and children.

Male and female health awareness sessions, with particular attention to cancer awareness now available. Free Information courses at Ebrington Centre and all are welcome to attend. Men’s health awareness, time 7pm to 9pm on the following Wednesdays, October 1, 8 and 15. Female health awareness, at 7pm to 9pm, on the following Tuesdays, October 7, 14 and 21.

This Friday (October 3) and Saturday (October 4) from 10am -4.30pm the Preloved shop will open on Catherine Street in Limavady (adjacent to Rendezvous cafe)will be selling clothing, household goods and bric-a-brac in aid of the Dance Fever programme’s chosen seven charities.

Charity Mr and Mrs

A night full of laughs is expected as several local couples go under the spotlight at Dance Fever’s Mr and Mrs event on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Drummond Cricket Club. Doors open at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome to come along.

Action on Hearing Loss (formerly RNID) runs FREE hearing aid clinics every month in the Derry City Council and Limavady Borough areas.

Newbuildings Community & Environmental Association in conjunction with Villas Bar will hold a Halloween Fancy Dress 1980’s & 90’s Reunion Disco on October 31.

This is to relaunch Villas Bar Newbuildings reopening of there Lounge Bar and to raise funds for Newbuildings Centre ‘Debt Fight Back’.

Tickets will cost £5 each, anyone that doesn’t come in fancy dress will pay extra £1 at the door.

Peace Walls Programme

The Songlines Choir continues to meet every Wednesday evening from 7pm to 9pm in the Irish Street Community Centre. The choir is looking for new members. Everyone welcome.

A Parkinson’s fundraiser will take place in the Irish Street Community Centre on Friday (October 10) from 8pm until late.
