Community service order revoked

A community service order was revoked last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court and replaced by a suspended prison sentence for a 21-year-old Lurgan man.

Jake O’Brien, Lurgantarry, Lurgan, had been convicted of handling stolen goods and on June 24 last year at the local court had been given a community service order.

But the probation service applied at last week’s court to have the order revoked because O’Brien had failed to report for unpaid work.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said that O’Brien had completed 56 hours but there were still 64 outstanding.

He added that it was highly unlikely he would complete the order within the 12 month period and asked the court to leave something hanging over O’Brien.

District Judge Benita Boyd revoked the community service order and imposed a three month custodial sentence, suspended for two years.
