Community service replaced with suspended sentence

Sean McConville, whose address was given as Colane Road, Lurgan, had been convicted of an offence at Craigavon court and ordered to pay 80 hours of unpaid work.

However the probation service asked for the order to be revoked as the defendant had failed to comply by not notifying them of a change of address.

A solicitor representing McConville said he was in full time employment and if he was offered community service again he would do it.

District Judge Peter King said the defendant had done zero hours out of 80 and revoked the order.

He added that community service was a direct alternative to custody and imposed a three month prison sentence but suspended it for 12 months.
