Company launches charity partnership

CLAREHILL Plastics in Moira has launched a new partnership with local charity Cancer Focus Northern Ireland – the new name for the Ulster Cancer Foundation.

Staff from the company will be raising funds for the charity through a variety of exciting and creative activities over the next year.

All the money raised will be spent on the charity’s ‘Keeping Well’ programme – helping people recognise the early signs of cancer, making those healthy lifestyle choices and encouraging everyone to take up opportunities for cancer screening.

Brian McCann, Managing Director of Clarehill Plastics said: “Cancer Focus will be bringing their ManVan to our site and staff will be having health checks and one-to-one health awareness sessions provided by specialist health promotion and nursing staff.

“We are also planning to have Cancer Focus Health Promotion Officers in to provide Quick Fit sessions to our staff which will encourage them to take positive steps to improve health through physical activity and diet. We want to help make our staff aware of the early signs and symptoms of cancer and educate them about the great benefits of a healthier lifestyle while raising money for a local charity.”

Maeve Fox, Cancer Focus NI Community Fundraising Manager, said, “We are thrilled to be working with Clarehill and are looking forward to a productive and enjoyable partnership. Every year in Northern Ireland around 11,200 local people get the news that they have cancer. Thankfully two thirds will survive but, unfortunately, we still lose more than 4,000 local people every year to the disease.

“We know that the earlier cancer is diagnosed, the more likely we are to survive and treatment can be less aggressive. We also know that we can prevent two thirds of cancers if we make healthy lifestyle choices. These are the same healthy choices that reduce the risk of other chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes.”

Clarehill have already begun organising their fundraising events with a Football Tournament scheduled for Friday 31st August 2012 at Crewe Park in Glenavy.
