Company secures new contract

The ‘Generate’ Programme is funded by Lisburn City Council, Belfast City Council and Castlereagh Borough Council, and is part funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland.

‘Generate’, delivered by Belfast Met, provides support and training for employees in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) in the council areas of Lisburn, Castlereagh and Belfast who are keen to discover progressive opportunities for their company and their employees in emerging renewable markets for wind, marine, bio-energy, smart-grid and energy storage.

Speaking about the success of the programme, Chairman of Lisburn City Council’s Economic Development Committee, Alderman Allan Ewart said: “I am delighted that a local company has directly benefited from taking part in our Generate programme, which is designed to get companies on the renewable supply chain.

“This market presents vast opportunities for businesses of all sizes and it is encouraging to see local companies winning contracts and expanding their businesses because of their involvement in the programme.

“The ‘Generate’ business support programme is still looking for Lisburn companies to sign up and take part, as the deadline for recruiting companies is March 31.”

Martin Murray from Stauff Ireland explained: “Following our entry onto the programme we worked closely with the ‘Generate’ team and developed a plan for our expansion into the renewables sector.

“Our knowledge of the renewables sector was very limited but this was very quickly addressed through the support provided by the programme.

“We were thrilled to be awarded a major contract from a wind turbine maintenance company and we are working with Belfast Met sector specialists on developing an innovative preventative maintenance programme for turbines utilising wireless technologies, which will provide us with a completely new product range for the company and open significant new opportunities for expansion.”

There will be a breakfast information workshop on the ‘Generate’ programme on Friday March 6 in Lagan Valley Island to learn about Offshore renewable opportunities and find out more about the programme.
