Company to shed more jobs

Bombardier, which has a facility in Dunmurry, has announced that it intends to shed almost 400 jobs.

The firm will be cutting 300 temporary and contract jobs, and is seeking 90 redundancies from its permanent workforce.

The aerospace company is one of Northern Ireland’s biggest employers.

Jackie Pollock, Regional Industrial Officer for Unite, the union that organises the overwhelming majority of workers in the company, expressed his deep dismay at the decision and pointed to the need for a proactive response from Stormont politicians.

“We are very disappointed by the scale of job-losses associated with this announcement although they represent only a proportion of the 1,800 jobs that Bombardier plan to shed globally,” said Mr Pollock.

“Unite is committed to securing the very best possible terms for all our members that are affected by this decision.
