Company’s donation helps sick children enjoy Lapland visit

A NEWTOWNABBEY company has raised enough money to help send eight children on a once in a lifetime trip to Lapland with the NI Children to Lapland Trust.

Oven cleaning company Ultra Pro Service, which is based in the Valley Business Park, presented a cheque for £5,000 to the charity after holding a number of fundraisers.

People taking part in the fundraisers walked 1,390 miles - the equivalent distance of walking to Lapland - at five separate events in places such as Stormont and Crawfordsburn County Park.

The Children to Lapland Trust sends local terminally ill, long suffering and deserving children to see Santa at his home in Lapland.

Tanya Gilmore, company secretary at Ultra Pro Service, presented the cheque to charity founder and chairman of the Children to Lapland Trust, Jack Rodgers MBE.

She said: “We invited all our employees and their families to walk the 1,390 miles to Lapland to help send eight very special children on this amazing trip.

“Everyone rallied round and we were amazed by the generosity of all those who took part and all those who donated money to such a worthy charity.

“We had great fun doing the walks as well as raising such important funds.”

Mr Rodgers added: “We are very grateful for the money donated by Ultra Pro Service. We are a local charity which helps children by giving them a trip they and their families will never forget.

“Many of the children endure illness throughout their entire lives and it’s fantastic to see the excitement on their faces when they meet the real Santa.

“The eight children who were able to go to Lapland this year because of Ultra Pro Service had an amazing experience and are still talking about it to this day.”

Fifteen members of the Ultra Pro Service team will also abseil off the Europa Hotel in Belfast this May for the charity.
