Concern at fly-tipping

Alderman Maurice Devenney has asked Council officers to inspect bags fly-tipped in the Bond’s Street area with a view to identifying and prosecuting those responsible. Residents, Catherine Gamble and Lloyd Magee, said the bags dumped at Roulston Avenue are a health hazard.

Mr Magee said: “These bags have been dumped right next to people’s houses and gardens. It’s just across from the play park. Some of them are already opened and people are worried about rats and mice being drawn to them if they haven’t been already.”

Mr Devenney said: “I’d call on whoever’s carrying this out to reflect on the potentially serious consequences for public health. I’ve contacted Council officers and asked them to check the bags for any identifying information and to try to find out who is responsible.”
