Concern at latest arson incidents

Lurgan has been plagued by a spate of arson attacks including one where a trapped man had to be rescued from a burning building.

In the latest attack on Sunday night, a petrol bomb was fired at a house in Sloanhill Mews.

Two appliances from the NI Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident which happened at around 10.30pm and caused scorch damage to a window 
and brickwork.

In a separate incident a man was rescued by fire crews after a mattress was set alight on the stairwell of flats at Mark St last Wednesday (November 4).

Paul Cassidy (25) from Mark St, has since appeared in court and was remanded in custody charged with arson endangering life.

And in another incident in Church Walk an elderly woman was rescued by the NI Fire and Rescue Service after a car was set alight outside her home.

This week a Craigavon man has spoken of his family devastation after more than £50k worth of damage was caused to the Hot and Spicy Takeaway in Legahorry. It is also being treated as arson.

None of the four incidents are linked.
