Concern over dog dirt outside chippies

MOYLE Council last night (Monday) agreed that they should be discouraging the placing of dog dirt in litter bins outside chip shops and takeaways.

DUP councillor David McAllister led the way saying dog dirt being placed in bins close to the doors of takeaways in Bushmills was unhygienic and attracts flies.

Councillors agreed to take dog fouling stickers off bins near chippies and to add dedicated dog fouling bins nearby where they are needed.

Cllr Robert McIlroy (DUP) said a lady told him it was not hygienic having dog dirt in bins outside takeaways.

Council officer Peter Mawdsley said it is probably more hygienic having dog dirt in plastic bags in the bin than on the pavement.

Cllr McIlroy said: "When I put my paper in there is my hand going into something it shouldn't be? At least on the pavement you see it."

Cllr Paudie McShane said the Council was sending out a mixed message and said the lifting of dog foul from pavements should be encouraged.
