Concern over future of town’s bus station’s

THERE is real concern over the future of Cookstown Bus Station, according to DUP MLA Ian McCrea.

The Mid Ulster politician recently met with Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy to discuss the future of the bus depot and its office.

Mr McCrea said he spoke to the Minister about a number of issues.

““Yet again in Mid Ulster we are faced with another proposal to further reduce services to the community in Cookstown, with the uncertainty of the bus depot and its offices,” he said.

“At the meeting I took the opportunity to put to the Minister the heavy investment the Council had put into the town centre and especially the confirmation of the new police college coming to the area and how the future of the depot being in doubt was a backward step in a forward thinking area.

“I also pressed the wider economic investment and how Cookstown was being considered as a sub-regional hub by DRD in their regional development strategy and how this latest development could only harm transport links and subsequently disadvantage Cookstown.

“I felt it important to impress what we are doing here in Cookstown and I will strongly oppose any reduction to transport services and I will voice this opinion when we meet with Translink to further discuss the matter.”
