Concern over Santa’s arrival in blacked out jeep in Dungannon

THE arrival of Santa and Mrs Claus in jeeps with blacked out windows has led to some suggestions that excited children may not have been able to catch a glimpse of their festive heroes at the annual Christmas lights switch-on event in Dungannon.

The issue was raised at a meeting of Dungannon Council’s Strategic Development Committee.

One elected member said there had been “negative comments” circulating on social media websites regarding the event, which attracted huge crowds.

According to a minute from the meeting: “Concerns raised were about how Santa and Mrs Claus arrived in

two black jeeps with blackened out glass and the inaccessibility for children to see Santa.”

Concerns were also raised about traffic management in the town, however, it was felt that the event was “quite positive” and that praise should be given to council staff who had worked tirelessly throughout the event.

Councillors were told the Craft Fair was a huge success, with many traders selling out on the first day.

It was resolved that an investigation on the overall event be carried out.
