Concern raised over time in custody

A Banbridge man being held on remand for serious sex charges against young girls, appeared via video link at the local court on Thursday last.

Andrew Trevor Williamson (26) from Dromore Street will re-appear on 3 October after his solicitor raised concerns about the length of time his client had spent in custody.

Williamson faces charges including rape, between 1/9/12 and 31/10/12, meeting a child following sexual grooming, sexual activity by an adult with a child, and trafficking within the UK.

Solicitor Mr Byrne explained to the court that there had been several bail applications on behalf of his client, and during each application he was told by the PPS that the file was “near completion”.

“However, we are near the end of September and I am told it is going to be another four weeks.”

A PPS Prosecutor told the court that tests were to be carried out on a SIM card and this was in a queue at the Forensics lab and nothing could be done to speed that up.

Deputy District Judge Ms Boyd agreed to a two week remand when it is hoped a full file will be ready and a date given for his PE.
