Concern voicedover lack of police patrols

A local woman has raised concerns that Lisburn is not being fully policed after taking a drive through the city centre recently.

She says she spotted a number of fights and other instances of anti-social behaviour but one thing she didn’t spot was even a single police officer on patrol

Lisburn PSNI have dismissed the claims.

The resident who was driving around the city to pick up her daughter from a nightclub claimed she did not see one police officer despite witnessing fights at Longstone Street and other brawls in the city.

She also claims to have seen drunken men urinating on shop fronts and large drunken crowds walking through the streets.

In a statement Lisburn PSNI said they alwaysstrive to provide a personal, professional and protective policing service with the best possible use of resources available to them.

“We are disappointed to hear that a member of the public feels police officers were not visible in Lisburn city centre, however, we would move to dispel any perception that the area was not fully policed,” the statement read.

“Multiple Response crews as well as officers from local Neighbourhood policing teams were on duty and actively patrolling in Lisburn on the night with additional support available where required from colleagues from other specialist units and departments.”

Police patrolling patterns across the Lisburn area are based on thorough and detailed analysis of the nature, time and location of incidents and crimes reported to us and officer duties are detailed to reflect these,” the spokesperson said.

“It is important to have the right officers in the right place at the right time, adding value to the community, and patrolling with purpose.

“It is also worth noting that weekends, and Saturday nights in particular are periods of extremely high demand for police and other emergency services.”
