Concerns over '£250' driver tests

CONCERNS have been expressed about the cost to clubs of paying "£250" for voluntary bus drivers to take tests.

Ulster Unionist councillor Willie Graham told a meeting of Moyle Council said the amount talked about is “most unfair” and he said if the new laws come in he said financial assistance should be given.

He feared the impact it could have on rural transport.

Council Vice-Chairperson, Cllr Madeline Black (SDLP), said the impact on community transport schemes will need to be cushioned.

DUP councillor Robert McIlroy said it is important people receive the correct training but he said the community/voluntary sector should be given exemptions.

Independent councillor Seamus Blaney said finding the payments will be difficult for many small clubs.
