Mr Anderson said the matter had been brought to his attention by members of Gilford Concerned Residents Group.

“This road is subject to heavy vehicular traffic,” he said. “In fact, one local resident counted over thirty lorries travelling on the road between 6.30pm and 7.15pm on a given night.

“It appears to me that there could be serious subsidence and I believe that a wall has had to be replaced on the castle side. Also, the footpath beside the road is currently in a bad condition with major cracks clearly on display.

“As the Tandragee Road is clearly used quite frequently by a rather large volume of traffic it is imperative that the Department of Regional Development and more specifically Transport NI do all in their power to improve the road’s condition.

“I am afraid that the road’s current state is an accident waiting to happen, urgent action is needed to uphold public safety.”

Mr Anderson continued: “I have written to the DRD Minister to request that he give the Tandragee Road in Gilford urgent attention.

“A traffic counting exercise should also be carried out to highlight the high frequency of vehicles.

“More importantly though, the road needs to be repaired as soon as possible.”
