Concerns over Union Bridge floods

Lisburn and Castlereagh City Councillor Tim Mitchell has highlighted the nuisance and disruption caused by flooding on the Union Bridge.

“I have been made aware of flooding on the Union bridge following heavy rainfall,” he said.

“When then flooding occurs it covers the citybound lane of the road.

“The effect of this has left pedestrians at risk of a drenching from vehicles using the road.

“This can be a nuisance factor for most people but can be a frightening event for elderly or vulnerable individuals.”

Councillor Mitchell made a number of , he said unsatisfactory, attempts to resolve the matter by speaking to both NI Water and Transport NI.

“I approached Roads Minister Danny Kennedy and made him aware of the issues and concerns that I had,” he said.

He went on to add that, at the behest of the Minister, “Further investigations by both NI Water and Transport NI have identified a collapsed pipe as being the problem.

“I am happy to confirm that work to resolve this matter will be carried out in June 2015.”

Mr Mitchell thanked Minister Danny Kennedy for his personal intervention in the matter.
