Concerns raised over university's plan to move students from Jordanstown

LOCAL political representatives have voiced concerns over plans by the University of Ulster to move thousands of students from its base in Jordanstown to a new campus in Belfast.

Employment and Learning Minister Sir Reg Empey recently pledged 16 million towards the university's city centre campus development at York Street - a move which UU vice-chancellor, Professor Richard Barnett revealed could see 12,000 students relocated from the Jordanstown campus.

Last year, the university unveiled ambitious plans to expand its base in the city centre and transfer many courses to the Cathedral Quarter. But some local politicians believe the move could have a devastating effect on the Jordanstown campus and businesses in the surrounding area.
