Concert choir sings out in aid of Adult Centre

Their guests were Magheramorne Silver Band, Katy Tweed, Larne Grammar School Brass Trio and the Adult Centre’s Makaton Choir.

Magheramorne Silver Band started the proceedings with rousing marches, themes from favourite movies and well-known songs. The musicians, under the leadership of their conductor Mr James McDowell played with a melodious, dedicated professionalism and their programme was much appreciated by the audience.

Larne Grammar School was represented by soloist Katy Tweed, and a brass trio which consisted of Libby Hawthorn, Michael McCallum and William Childs. Katy’s singing was most enjoyable and she displayed her considerable talent by moving smoothly from classic Italian to a lively “Consider Yourself” from the musical, Oliver.

The brass trio proved to be accomplished musicians and played smoothly and with expression.

All four young people were warmly applauded by the audience.

Larne Concert Choir, under the direction of John Dooris and accompanied by Richard Barnes, opened their programme with an inspiring rendition of Vivaldi’s Gloria. The choir demonstrated a wide versatility, which ranged from poignant to powerful pieces, and upheld tuneful singing throughout.

Again the audience’s response was to acclaim the choir with prolonged applause.

The Makaton Choir took to the stage and stole the hearts of all present with their happy, infectious enthusiasm. Many congratulations to them and also to the dedicated staff who offer them such encouragement and support.

All in all an excellent night of music given in aid of an excellent cause, raising over £300 for Larne Adult Centre.
