Conditional discharge for obstructing a police officer

A 38-year-old man was given a conditional discharge last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for an offence which happened in 2011.

Edvinas Vaitekunas, Watson’s Lane, Portadown, admitted obstructing a constable on April 2, 2011.

The court heard that at 2.25am police were called to an address at Ballyoran Park in Portadown in relation to a female in distress.

The defendant began acting aggressively towards police and as they attempted to restrain him he pulled away.

A solicitor for the defendant said his client had a drink problem which was reflected in his record.

Deputy District Judge Neil Rafferty told the defendant this happened some time ago and since then he had been in and out of prison.

He warned Vaitekunas if he kept on the way he was going he was going to end up in prison for longer.

The judge imposed a conditional discharge for 12 months.
