Condolences forNice victims fromLondonderry Mayor

She said: “On behalf of the people of the city and district, I would like to extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the people of France following the indiscriminate act of terror that was inflicted on the people of Nice who were out and about enjoying what should have been a day of celebration. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have been bereaved and all those who have been injured.

“I am also aware that there are many people from our own city and district who are holidaying in the area at this time and I sincerely hope that all the local families will soon have reassurance from their loved ones as to their safety.

“All of us in Northern Ireland are aware of the devastation of terrorism and the impact it has on communities and I utterly condemn this act of violence that has resulted in such carnage and devastation,” she said.

Londonderry man Paddy Mullan, was in Nice, when the attack took place,

“There were people coming, running up screaming and coming into the restaurant trying to get away, so we didn’t know what it was.

“We didn’t know if it was people on the ground shooting or if there was a bomb, or what was going on, we were just trying to get away.”

“The Promenade des Anglais, the beach-front walkway, is probably about the same width as a two-lane highway. Imagine that packed with people.

“We were just desperately trying to get back to our apartment.

“I’ve never seen fear like it in all my life and probably never will again.”
