Confrontation with burglar spills onto street

A confrontation between a Rosemount resident and two burglars spilled out onto the street on Friday (January 16) with the criminals eventually making off with a laptop and game console.

Detectives in Londonderry are appealing for information following the burglary that occurred in the Bethany Hall area.

At approximately 7.40am, a man aged in his 20s heard people in his house. He went downstairs and found two men there. One man made off with a laptop, however there was an altercation between the home owner and the other man which spilled out onto the street. The other man eventually made off with a games console. The two men are believed to have headed in the direction of Park Avenue on foot.

The two men are both described as being in their late teens or early 20s and of thin build.

Detective Constable Mullan said: “I would appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area or who knows anything about this incident to contact CID at Strand Road Police Station on the non emergency number 101.

“Or if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
