'Confusion' means no penalty points

A BALLYMONEY man escaped getting penalty points because of "confusion" surrounding points at a previous court.

Instead at the Departmental Magistrates Court in Coleraine, 57-year-old William Hartin of Hamilton Park, was fined a total of 350.

Offences included absence of insurance; using a vehicle to carry passengers for reward without a licence; using a vehicle without being the holder of the proper category of driving licence and using a Public Service Vehicle on a road to carry passengers for reward when he was not the holder of a Road Service Licence for that vehicle.

The charges regarded use of a minibus at Bushmills Road, Portrush, on March 3, 2007.

Defence barrister Francis Rafferty said his client did have insurance but the particular vehicle was not covered for hire and reward usage.
