Confusion 'puts off' shoppers'

COUNCIL decisions are deterring shoppers from coming to Larne, it has been claimed.

Moyle Sinn Fein councillor Oliver McMullan said “conflicting messages” from the council chamber had caused “confusion”.

“They say they support centre-first development and when the Co-op puts in an application for just that, they defer it. And at the same time they’re trying to sell off ground to Tesco, who want it for out-of-town development. What’s it all about?” asked Cllr McMullan.

“The debacle in the council is confusing enough for people who live in Larne and is no enticement to people from outside the area to come in to the town and do their shopping,” said the Glens representative.

“It’s time the council got off its high horse: either it supports town centre regeneration, or it doesn’t. If it does, then why all this business about selling off council land to a multi-national?” he asked.
