Consultation over halting site

A CONSULTATION meeting is to be held to discuss a proposal for another temporary halting site in Craigavon.

Planners recommended that permission should be granted to the Housing Executive to build the site at the rear of Moylinn House. The area will contain eight pitches and eight steel pod showering units. The planning permission will last from February 22, 2012, to February 22, 2017.

However, DUP councillor Robert Smith hit out at the plans. He said: “Planners have said there have been no objections to this proposal, but I can assure you that there are many.

“I have spoken to a number of people who have aired concerns about this. There are objections to this proposal, and I can’t understand why the planning documents say there are none.”

He said that a consultation meeting on the proposal was necessary.

Cllr Ronnie Harkness, Alderman Kenneth Twyble and Cllr Tommy O’Connor are to attend the meeting with Cllr Smith.
