Contractor appointed to carry out £500k park and pavilion upgrade

Newtownabbey Borough Council has appointed William Rogers Construction to carry out a programme of refurbishment works at Lilian Bland Community Park and Glengormley Pavilion.

The work, which will include improvements to the pavilion and multi-use games area and expansion of the play area, is expected to cost £495,439 excluding VAT.

At February’s Development Committee meeting, Councillor Phillip Brett and Alderman John Blair suggested that leftover money already budgeted for the project should be used for additional enhancements.

Cllr Brett asked if further improvements could be made to the play area, while Alderman Blair proposed changes to the Carnmoney Road entrance to the park.

The council’s Director of Development, Majella McAlister said officers would look at the issues raised and report back to the committee.
