Convicted of assault in his absence

A warrant was issued for the arrest of a 18-year-old man after he was convicted in his absence on Friday, December 19, at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

Joseph Friel appeared at a special sitting of Buncrana District Court.

Douglas McDonald, Enniskeen, Craigavon, was charged with unlawfully assaulting a female on January 10, 2013, and being drunk in a public place.

The court heard that on 11.30pm police were called to the Courthouse bar where the defendant was being restrained on the ground by two members of the door staff.

McDonald, who was intoxicated, had assaulted a female member of the door staff, hitting her on the side of the face after he was refused entry because he was drunk.

District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, convicted McDonald in his absence.
