Conway is new DPP chair

COUNCILLOR Thomas Conway is the new chairman of the Londonderry District Policing Partnership (DPP) after being nominated by his party at last week’s Policy and Resources Council Meeting.

This is the second time Councillor Conway has chaired the DPP having previously chaired the Partnership in 2006. He was first elected to Derry City Council in 2001 and represents the Rural Ward.

Speaking on his appointment Councillor Conway commented: “I am delighted to be chosen again by my party for this important position.

“There are many challenges facing policing in 2011 and I believe it is the role of the DPP to ensure that the PSNI meet these challenges whilst being accountable and open to public scrutiny.

“As Chair of the DPP I intend to represent everyone in the Foyle District but as a rural councillor rural policing is a very important issue to me personally.”

He said this had prompted his decision to hold his first DPP Public Meeting in Park on Monday.

This was the first time that the DPP has held a public meeting in the village.
