The firm is set to turn a former office block on O’Connell Street into a 198-bed Holiday Inn Express.

McAleer & Rushe, which has enjoyed major growth through focusing on work outside Northern Ireland, has signed the deal with Findlater House Limited.

A spokesman said the scheme would “integrate an unloved 1970s office block into the wider contextual fabric of Dublin’s most famous thoroughfare”.

It’s the latest hotel contract win for McAleer & Rushe after a trio of contracts for hotels in the new Waverley development in Edinburgh.

Martin Magee, managing director of McAleer & Rushe Contracts UK, said: “McAleer & Rushe’s involvement signals our confidence in Dublin’s resurgence.

“The works include the complete soft strip of the building, removal of plant rooms and the existing facade, reconfiguration of the internal cores and the construction of an additional floor.”

The new hotel is due to open in spring next year under a franchise agreement with Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) owner Findlater House Ltd.
