A Cookstown comedienne who graced the stage at the Edinburgh Festival not long after training with the woman responsible for Jimmy Carr, is reaching out to local people who think they can raise a laugh.

Louise Taylor, who counts Jerry Seinfeld as her comedy hero, is hosting a workshop [and lunch] between 10am-3pm at the Hub on February 21.

And she has promised to share her experience as a stand-up and recent finalist of So You Think You’re Funny? with those who come along.

“I did the advanced Jill Edwards Comedy course and I graduated from her course,” she told the Mail.

“I’ve [also] gigged around the south coast [of England] because I lived in Brighton for 13 years.”

But the former Cookstown High student said her first love was acting, and from that she was drawn to comedy.

“I loved comedy so I set up the Scary Mary Sketch Show,” she added, “and that’s whenever I started the comedy writing and performance.

“I was really going for it in terms of comedy performances and writing... and after that I decided that I wanted to try stand-up so I did the new act night with Jill Edwards and I was hooked after that.”

And as for her inspiration, she said her family is a good source of material, as well as her “unique view” of the world.

And this is what she would like to share during her workshop at the Hub.
