Cookstown GAA community shocked by sudden death of Fr Rock’s stalwart

The GAA community in Cookstown has been plunged into grief with the sudden death of the Fr Rock’s groundsman Sean McElwee.

In a statement posted on the Fr Rock’s Facebook page, the club paid tribute to Mr McElwee.

“It is with great sadness that we, in Fr. Rock’s CLG, announce the tragic and shocking news that Sean has passed away.

“Sean was our esteemed groundsman for many, many years at Páirc Uí Chuilnn.

“Such was his dedication, he very often went beyond the call of duty in carrying out this vital role at our club.

“His devotion to the club was evident in the meticulous way he went about looking after everything at the club grounds - all done without fuss and in a most unassuming manner.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Francie and the McElwee family at this most difficult time.

Dozens of people have posted their own tributes to Mr McElwee and extending their sympathy of his grieving family.
