Cookstown High App team looking for Royal seal of approval

Cookstown High School App Development team also known as ‘GTracks’ are setting their sights even higher as they prepare to take their ideas to Buckingham Palace!

The innovative group of teenagers after winning an Eircom Junior Spiders award in Dublin with their ‘Davagh Nav’ app for mountain bikers have set their goals even higher.

The team have qualified to pitch their App idea to a panel of Judges at Buckingham palace on 10th July. The ‘Idea Award’ is supported by the Duke of York and Nominet trust.

GTracks which is comprised of students Daniel Weir, Joel Cuddy and Vincent Wong have already achieved great success with their navigation app.

The talented bunch reached the National Finals of Junior Dragons Den held in Dublin in January 2014 and were unfortunate not to progress to the televised round.

They also won the Best Mobile App in the Ireland wide Eircom Junior Spiders Awards in a category with students of up to 18 years old.

The group will now travel to Buckingham Palace in the coming weeks accompanied by mentors Anona (17) and Toby (20) to compete against other entrants up to 25 years old. Twenty teams from the event will be awarded £5000 and the opportunity to pitch for £15000 in the final round.

Team Mentor, and teacher at Cookstown High Mr Robert Johnston told the MAIL the GTracks team really want to succeed at the palace:“The team don’t just want the attend the event they want to win one of the £5000 or £15000 bursaries, and with team receiving mentor-ship from Bill Liao, known Entrepreneur and co-founder of Coder DoJo this might just be very possible.”
