Cookstown holymen in ‘Ready Steady Cook’ challenge for 040

The event, which raised almost £500 for Opportunities 4 Older People [O4O] saw Canon Porteous, the Rev Ross and Rev Anderson all roll up their sleeves, don aprons and get busy in the kitchen to help make wheaten bread, mince pies and iced Christmas cake.

A good crowd enjoyed a great night’s fun at the cook-off, which was held in Cookstown’s British Legion, according to chair of the charity, Margaret Gilbert.

With Sam Greaves compering and entertainment from the 1147 band, she said there really was something for everybody.

However, according to sources, Canon Porteous - on the night did wonder - how the Rev Ross had put round mince pies in the oven, but yet they came out square.

“A miracle,” he called it.

A great night was had by everybody there Margaret said, while another spokesperson for the charity told the Mail: “We raised £480.00 for the Ready Steady Cook event.

“It was attended by 118 people from O4O.”

Adding that everyone who attended “enjoyed the night” staff at the O4O said its customers are already asking when their next episode of Ready Steady Cook is on.
