Cookstown lad flicks the Christmas lights switch in Belfast

Nathan’s mum Sarah entered him into the competition run by Cool FM and Belfast City Council for the best festive jumper photograph.

Nathan, who is in Year 3 made his very own festive jumper last year for a fundraiser organised by his school to raise money for the Lee Campbell Memorial, a young student from Sperrin Integrated who sadly passed away.

Nathan’s Christmas jumper picture was chosen from thousands of others submitted to the radio station.

“I decided to send the picture of Nathan in his jumper in to the competition, and I couldn’t believe it when I got the phone call to say he had won,” said Sarah.

“He also won two tickets to the Cool FM Jingle Ball next month.

“It was a great night, very exciting. I know Nathan was very nervous when he saw the crowds from backstage but he did great. He helped Lord Mayor Nichola Mallon turn the lights on. She actually told us he is the first ‘non-celebrity’ to ever turn the lights on in Belfast, which is brilliant!

“It’s a great memory to have, we had a really enjoyable night,” the proud mum added.
