Cookstown loses two prominent women

Two prominent Cookstown families have had to sadly say goodbye to the foremost women in their lives over the past week.

Tributes have been paid to both Mrs Theresa Falls, wife of pharmacist Malachy, and Mrs Anne Thompson, the Rev Isaac Thompson’s wife.

Mrs Falls, was said to be “a constant at Malachy’s side as together, from 1963, they established the (Falls) Pharmacy that has become one of the mainstays of the Cookstown community, before passing the mantle on to Niall and Karen in 2005”.

She passed away on Saturday, February 25 and was laid to rest following Requiem Mass at Holy Trinity Church, Cookstown on Tuesday at noon. A tribute from Falls Pharmacy on Facebook said: “Mrs Falls will be sorely missed by all, especially the staff of the pharmacy.

“We pass on our heartfelt condolences to Malachy, Niall and Karen, Denise and Maurice, Phillippa and Terry and Michelle and Alan, all the grandchildren and wider family circle at this sorrowful time.

“May she rest in peace.”

Falls Pharmacy was closed on Tuesday from 11am-3pm as a mark of respect.

This sad news was followed on Monday, by the death of Mrs Anne Thompson.

An announcement from Steenson’s Funeral Services said her funeral will take place at First Presbyterian Church Cookstown on Thursday, March 2 at 11am with interment afterwards in Cookstown Cemetery.

Mrs Thompson was a “much loved wife and partner in ministry of Isaac, Loy Hill Manse, Cookstown, devoted mother of Lloyd (and Sarah) (Scotland); Neil (and Brydie) (New Zealand) and Reuel (London)”.

Family and friends are welcome at R Steenson & Son Funeral Home at 11 Loy Street, on Wednesday, March 1 from 5-8pm.

A message from Cookstown First Presbyterian said: “The Session, Committee and Members extend their love and deepest sympathy.”
