Ian Steele, 21, from Rockdale Road in Cookstown, admitted hitting her with a trainer and causing her immense pain when he grabbed her chest.

The district judge also imposed a three-year restraining order. He said Steele would go straight to jail if he used violence against a woman again.

According to a BBC report of the court case, a defence barrister said Steele got married at 19 and became a father at 20.

Things got too much for him and the marriage is now over.

He said Steele has been unable to see his baby son since the incident.

He was remorseful for his actions and his priority was now to straighten things out in his life, he added.
