“For most of his life he has remained trouble free,” Mr Blaine Nugent, defending, said of Alan Robert Moffett, 46, from Princess Avenue.

“His attitude remains the same as on the day of contest... it does seem that matters have settled.”

Handing down sentence, District Judge John Meehan noted the defendant’s “paranoid features”.

“This is a case of untold concern. It was a sustained campaign of harassment, it was an arduous case and very distressing.

“Your actions were irascible and totally without remorse.

“I only see self-indulgence whereby... everyone else is out to get you,” he told the defendant.

Judge Meehan further granted an application to impose a two-year restraining order to prohibit contact with the injured party.

Bail for appeal was set at £200.
