Cookstown man sentenced to jail for altercation

Lee Hamilton, 24, of Riverside Drive, was charged with the offences in relation to an incident on August 11, last year in Woodburn Crescent, Dungannon.

A Court heard how police on patrol in the area noticed a physical altercation taking place between three men in the area.

Police approached the males and noticed the defendant reach out and punch of the males.

Police then approached the group with batons drawn due to the high level of violence, and attempted to separate them.

The defendant was continually aggressive to police and was warned to calm down but continued to tell police to “f**k off”.

It appeared as if the defendant was going to strike an officer as officers stepped in to restrain him.

District Judge John Meehan noted that the defendant had taken the case through to contest and had refused to engage with probation. He sentenced him to two months in prison for each offence to run concurrent. Bail was fixed at £200 pending appeal.
