Cookstown man who urinated in public during Apprentice Boys' parade was '˜caught short'

A judge in Derry's Magistrate's Court has described a man's actions during the Apprentice Boys' parade in the city as '˜the sort of thing that brings these parades into disrepute.'

District Judge Barney McElholm fined Stephen Steele from Stewart Avenue in Cookstown £100 for urinating in a pathway at Clooney Terrace on 8th August, 2015. Prosecution outlined how the defendant had said he ‘wouldn’t do it again’ when questioned.

Defence barrister Eoghan Devlin said it was a case of his client being ‘caught short’ but admitted that Steele, 28, had received a caution for a similar offence before.

Judge McElholm also ordered Steele to pay the householder £100 compensation for the “offensive” behaviour.
