Cookstown named as Ireland’s best kept large town

Cookstown has won the title of Ireland’s Best Kept Large Town for 2013 at the recent All-Ireland Award Ceremony.

This follows the success in 2012 when Cookstown won the North’s Best Kept Medium Town for excellence in environmental work, including litter and graffiti control projects, planting schemes, floral displays and recycling initiatives.

Cookstown District Council Chairman, Cllr Pearse McAleer stated: “This is a very proud day for me as Chairman and indeed for all members of Cookstown District Council.

“I could not be more pleased with the efforts our members of staff have made in achieving this outstanding accolade”.

Council Chief Executive, Adrian McCreesh added: “For those of us who view our town with a great sense of pride on a day to day basis, this award comes as no surprise. The efforts of our staff members are simply magnificent for residents, traders and visitors to see.

“This is a very proud day for Cookstown District Council and Cookstown, the Retail Capital of Mid Ulster”.
